Tabernash is named after Chief Tabernash of the Ute Indian Tribe. It is not really a town as it has never been incorporated but rather an unincorporated area of Grand County. Tabernash is the home of Pole Creek Golf Club, Devils Thumb Ranch and the Fraser River Canyon.
The area around Tabernash has a large number of subdivisions, with mostly older ones on the east side of US Hwy 40 and newer ones on the west side. There are currently no condominiums in Tabernash.
